The Last Tommy

Part III

This additional one hour documentary (a follow-up to the very successful two part series shown on BBC1 in 2005) was produced by Quickfire Media and filmed at our Location in Suffolk to commemorate the last surviving Veterans of The Great War. The concept of this programme was to see what happened to those survivors after The Great War and to see what they did later in their lives.

The BBC have decided to hold transmission of this programme until the last Great War Veteran dies as a tribute.

Historical Advice:

Historical Adviser: Taff Gillingham

Khaki Devil were responsible for providing all the locations for the programme including sourcing an aircraft for a scene at Sydney airport, 1946 and an SOE Training establishment c1942. The highlight was the reconstruction of scenes from the London and Bath Blitzes; several WW2 vehicles were sourced along with wartime firecrew uniforms and equipment for some extremely realistic reconstruction sequences.

Costume and Props:

Khaki Devil provided the uniform, equipment, weaponry and most of the period civilian clothing. We also supplied all the props and much of the equipment.

Specialist Extras:

We provided the cast too; all the men featured were members of The Khaki Chums including those who had represented the veterans in the previous two programmes. We also provided women and children for many of the scenes.
