Journey's End
This production of R.C.Sherriff's play about a group of British Officers in a dugout just before the opening of the German March Offensive of 1918 at The Comedy Theatre, Panton Street, London opened on 21 January 2004 - exactly 75 years to the day after Sherriff's original production in 1929.
The Designer, Jonathan Fensom, and the Costume Co-ordinator, Charlotte Bird, were very keen to get as much detail right as possible and Taff Gillingham and Dickie Ingram worked closely with them to get the uniforms and equipment accurate for March 1918.
The play was a huge success, running for well over a year. A National Tour was also staged to coincide with the London production. In 2007 Alan Wasser Productions took the same production to Broadway.
Costume and Props:
Khaki Devil provided most of the uniform, equipment and weaponry for the cast. This included all the British Officers who were correctly badged as men of the 9th (Service) Battalion The East Surrey Regiment, 72 Brigade, 24 Division as they would have been in March 1918.
