Holding Hands
at Passchendaele
Premiered at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast in 2006, Martin Lynch's powerful drama is a moving glimpse of the last four days of a First World War deserter from the Staffordshire Regiment guarded by an Royal Artillery Gunner. The pair are handcuffed together throughout the play and discover that there are more than just physical chains that bind them..
This two-hander is another case of the set and costume being very much secondary to the strong performances required, and so is a very cost effective production. That said, because of the paucity of visuals onstage, it is perhaps even more important to get the uniform details right and that is, of course, our speciality!
