Holding Hands
at Passchendaele
Premiered at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast in 2006, Martin Lynch's powerful drama is a moving glimpse of the last four days of a First World War deserter from the Staffordshire Regiment guarded by an Royal Artillery Gunner. The pair are handcuffed together throughout the play and discover that there are more than just physical chains that bind them.
The writer was quite specific about the units the two soldiers served in, and we were happy to send a uniform for a Private in the 1st Battalion, North Staffordshire Regiment, and a Gunner of the Royal Field Artillery, winging their way to Belfast, together with uniforms for the musicians (Bandsmen) and a selection of props.
