Blue Peter

National Service

The idea of this film was to show the programme's young audience something of what it was like to be a National Service recruit in the 1940s/1950s. The two presenters were taken to an old Army Barracks and were put through some of the training of the period including 'square-bashing', bayonet practice and much more.

The final film was a beautifully made tribute to the British National Serviceman and was certainly a powerful piece of film for young viewers.

Khaki Devil provided the uniform, equipment and weaponry. This included everything necessary to portray recruits and instructors at an Army Depot c1955. The other troops featured were all members of The Khaki Chums. We also supplied all the kit from the Quartermaster's Store.
